« 2020 was a year like none before.
A year where we all discovered, against our own wills, a new time unit, a new space. Infinitely stretched time, confined space. For perfumers, a constraint, but also sheer luxury: the creation of beautiful things which take time, a reflection of the Atelier du Parfumeur IFF, in Grasse, open since May 2019, an ode to haute-perfumery, where each fragrance is compounded by hand. This year, their creations are hence a tribute to Slow-Smelling, a new take on our annual “Speed Smelling”, with a theme: “Luxury, Calm, and Pleasure” (after Baudelaire’s “Invitation to the Voyage”). The luxury of creation without looking at price tags. The calm of inspiration as a reconnection to oneself and to suspended time. The rekindled pleasure of re-learning what they already knew, seeing with fresh eyes, away from the frantic trance of day to day. Join them in this Slow Smelling experience. Close your eyes. And partake in their experience: Luxury, Calm, and Pleasure, indeed.
The Atelier du Parfumeur* IFF in Grasse, an idyllic creation setting, conceptualized as the Villa Medici of perfumery, was for many of these creations, the original conception nest – so inspirational is it – and the cradle to write of their formula. »
